The Nutritional Value of Saskatoon Berries

  • Saskatoon’s are a very high source of fibre and contain twice as much fibre as blueberries. Fibre is necessary in the diet and is known to prevent colon disease. Choosing a 100 gram (3/4 cup) serving of Saskatoon’s provides 24% of the daily required fibre necessary to maintain good health.

The science supports the goodness!
A three year study of two Saskatoon varieties commonly grown of the prairies show that the antioxidant activity of the Saskatoon berry is comparative to that of the blueberry, blackberry, and grape seed extract.

The colour components in fruits and vegetables represent almost 2,500 constituents, also know as antioxidants, shown in clinical studies to protect against diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and macular degeneration.
